Greene County tells senior award, scholarship recipients

Greene County High School seniors and their parents didn’t have a traditional Awards Night due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but recipients of scholarships and other awards were announced Monday evening, June 1.

Every senior received a $500 Greene County Foundational Scholarship, regardless of his or her future plans. The scholarships are funded by the interest drawn from a bequest of more than $900,000 from the estate of Floyd Dunlop and most of the funds from a $600,000 bequest from Halycon Dixon.

Fifteen seniors received larger scholarships from the Greene County Schools Educational Foundation as has been done in recent years. Receiving those scholarship were Sophia Ausberger, Cole Betts, Will Hansen, Sophia Havens, Paige Heaning, Aubrey Heupel, Kassie Lamoureux, Kirsten Lamoureux, Ellie Madson, Carter Morton, Kylie Roach, Julia Saul, Tieryn Tucker, Harleigh Weir, and Shawn Wilkerson. Dhesian Harjot received a Greene County Schools Foundation scholarship funded by an anonymous donor and Ashlee Harmeyer received a Greene County Schools Foundation scholarship funded by Lenita Jordan Carstens.

Cael Fisher and Ellie Madson received green cords for performing and documenting 200 hours of community service during their high school years. They did a minimum of 45 hours each year.

Greene County 4-H also honored senior members for their volunteerism. Earning that recognition were Izzy Bravard, Aubrey Heupel and Tieryn Tucker.

Kassie Lamoureux was honored with the Governor’s Scholar Recognition Award. Each school in the state can nominate one graduate to for that award. She also received the DAR Award.

Sophia Ausberger received the Des Moines Register Academic All-State Award.

The Greene County athletic department presented the Bernie Saggau Award to Will Hansen. The Ram of the Year Awards went to Izzy Bravard and Carter Morton.

Heart of Iowa Activities Conference medals were given to Sophia Ausberger, Izzy Bravard, Cael Fisher, Will Hansen, Sophia Havens, Kassie Lamoureux, Kirsten Lamoureux, Carter Morton, Tieryn Tucker and Harleigh Weir.

Recipients of the Seal of Biliteracy, presented by the world languages department, were Sophia Ausberger, Emily Hofer, Kassie Lamoureux and Angelica Moody.

The Iowa Bar Association/ Greene County Bar Association American Citizenship Awards were given to Cole Betts and Kassie Lamoureux.

LifeServe Blood Center recognized Megan Doran, Kyle Hack, Brian Hardaway, Sophia Havens, Aubrey Heupel, Megan Higgins, Ethan Hueser, Abby Kozal, Kassie Lamoureux, Trevor Lebeck, Regan Williams and Hannah Yetter as frequent blood donors.
